Shani is a life-long book lover and reader, who is taking her personal passion and spreading her book joy with others. As a holder of a B.A. in English from Spelman College, Shani has always had a love of learning. She is especially interested in all of the greats — Toni, Octavia, James — and has a deep and endearing respect for many contemporary writers including Kiese, Dolen, Tananarive, Jesmyn and too many others to name. Shani is deeply and personally connected to the work of community building and creating spaces of belonging for marginalized communities, as we strive towards equity and justice.

An important part of Shani’s work includes sourcing and curating products from small, BIPOC-owned and operated businesses and working with vendors from underrepresented identities to uplift communal and local economies. 

Bookish Things, LLC is Atlanta-bred, just like its founder. Shani is also the co-owner of the forthcoming 7 Coffee & Book Bar, an Atlanta-based hybrid hospitality space thoughtfully designed for individuals to work, connect, and engage with culture and one another through high-quality coffee, curated books, cocktails, and elevated evening experiences.
